New England Mineral Conference - NEMC

A New Beginning: New England Mineral Conference (NEMC)

Since the New England Mineral Association and its annual Conference (NEMC) are new entities, we are in need of some financial assistance if we are going to maintain the great success we have experienced in the last few years. We have created a new non-profit and have applied for 501c3 status, which will benefit donors who itemize by allowing a tax write off for fiscal or valued in-kind donations. The 501c3 should be approved by this summer. For now, the Association Officers are personally incurring a large one-time expense to facilitate this legal structure, in addition to the expenses that go along with offering a quality Mineral Conference ... display cases, digital projector and all types of supplies ... and for all of this, we need your help!

Conference Support
NEMC is seeking support by either cash donations, or a donation of mineral specimens for the NEMC Auction. Since we are a non-profit, such donations are tax deductible.

What to Expect at the 2017 Conference

The 2017 Conference will include educational lectures and presentations, displays, exhibits, dealers, miners, live and silent auctions, and a Sunday field trip, plus a special program just for kids, Grades 3-12. The Conference staffing is by volunteers, although we will have to pay for professional Security.

How Can YOU Help?

At present, we are reaching out to our friends in the mineral community for donations …both financial and in-kind mineralogical donations for the auctions. Here are just a few specific ways your donation will help:

Sponsor Keynote Guest Speaker - transportation, room & board, and a small speaker’s honoraria ... to attract a leading national or international scientist/collector/miner/enthusiast.

New England or a non-local Maine speaker - lodging stipend, travel stipend, meals, and a speaker’s honoraria.

Local Maine speaker - a speaker’s honoraria.

Mineral display cases - These are the Arizona Case portable glass cases with LED lighting and travel case. Each will include a permanently affixed “donated by” plate.

In-kind donations for auctions - We are in need of mineral-related items (i.e. specimens, books, collecting and display tools/supplies, gems) to offer at our silent and live auctions. Proceeds from the auctions will go directly to support of the Conference.

Beyond financial support, we are also searching for those who would like to offer support in other ways. Here are just a few ideas:

New England Mineral Clubs - from every New England State needed to participate in this event. To display your own State’s minerals at the Conference and/or possibly offer to give a lecture about your State.

Offer of your services and talents – maybe you are a lawyer or security professional, accountant, good with displays and exhibits, computing or organizational skills, and would like to offer your services free of charge.

We hope you share our enthusiasm in getting this annual event back up and running. We are excited about the direction of NEMA and the Conference, and have received a great deal of positive feedback already. Please help make this a successful event with a donation to the New England Mineral Association.
